Hey there! Julia Albain and Corey Lubowich here. We’ve been doing a lot of thinking, musing, some moaning, and a little bit of dreaming lately. Lets start with a story from Julia:
I stirred the straw in my ice tea glass and pressed my fingers into my temple to try and squash a random headache whose cause I’m pretty sure was just the confusion of my life. I then heard Corey say “I just… I feel like a Robot Alien.”
SCREECH. I had to look up. When your friend says he feels not just like a robot, and not just like an alien, but like a ROBOT ALIEN… that demands your full attention.
And so we talked. A lot. About feeling out of sorts in our 20s. About feeling like we had so many ideas and nowhere for them to go. And about all the other bullshit life throws at you. We called them ‘the Blahs.’ That thick fog that descends around your life, blocking you from seeing any destinations ahead, and sapping your motivation, creativity, and will to get out of bed in the morning.
I started thinking about my own questions: am I ahead in the game, or behind? What do I actually want to be doing with my life? Will I ever meet a guy who’s not a musician? I don’t make much money, so why am I paying 30% taxes?
Corey pulled me out of my pity party saying “I just wish there was a way to use this feeling.”
That’s when we had one of those cartoon moments where light bulbs appear above our heads and high-five each other. How could we turn this bad feeling into something good? If we’re feeling this, other people must be as well, right? Everyone must have an idea for something they dream about doing but don’t because they can’t see through the blahs.
But how can we fight the blahs?
Over the course of the last few months we’ve talked a lot and exchanged a million texts and emails. We found a lot of common ground in what we were feeling and how we felt things should be done. We boiled it down to 4 ideas:
-Cut the Crap
-Be Better, Do Better
We believe in being good to one another; we believe in honesty; we believe in humor; and we believe that everyone can be better and should do better. You are responsible for what you put out into the world; make it better.
On top of all that, we believe in making mistakes and learning from them. Instead of just attacking and executing ideas from behind a veil, we want to deconstruct every step of every process, both creative and organizational, and showcase it. The enemy is fear, and we can empower ourselves by breaking things apart and bringing them to the light.
We don’t have to be the jaded critics. We don’t have to be the walking dead. We can get in the arena, get our hands dirty, and get shit done. Join us on our quest for awesome. Those who regret the most are the ones who never played the game.
This blog is our conversation starter.
Much more to come.
